Second Web Science Curriculum Workshop (WSCW2)

10:00 - 13:00, Wed 18th March, Athens, Greece.

The second Web Science Curriculum Workshop will take place before the opening session of WebSci09 and follows on from the previous Curriculum Workshop held at Southampton, UK in September 2008. The aim is to explore how multidisciplinarity can be exposed in a WS curriculum.

Proposed Schedule

1. Introduction and Welcome from the Workshop Chair
2. Panel: What Every Web Scientist Should Know
   Five expert panelists from widely differing backgrounds will argue for the pre-eminence of their discipline's perspective on the web science curriculum. This panel will take the form of a "balloon debate" during which the workshop participants will be asked to vote on which disciplines to keep safe in the balloon's basket. The aim of this panel is to be as controversial and extreme as possible, in order to expose delegates to the variety of disciplinary perspectives available for studying the web.
3. Examining existing and proposed Web Science curricula
   This interactive session will critically consider 1-page poster/descriptions of existing or planned Web Science curricula submitted by the workshop participants themselves. A set of challenging criteria developed from the earlier ballon debate will guide this evaluation.
4. Concluding Session

Feedback from the process of critiquing. Is a broader perspective achievable? When is a multidisciplinary perspective practical? Agreements on sharing resources.

Registration

WebSci09 delegates can register for this workshop by emailing the workshop organisers. Delegates will be asked to submit a 1-page poster/description of an existing or planned Web Science curriculum (for a course, module or degree).
